ATLANTA (AP) Hip-hop artist Rich Homie Quan, born Dequantes Devontay Lamar, tragically passed away from an accidental drug overdose. The Fulton County medical examiner reported that he was found unresponsive at his Atlanta home on September 5, 2023. He was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
The medical report confirmed that Quan ingested a mixture of fentanyl, alprazolam, codeine, and promethazine. The examiner officially ruled his death an accident. Quan’s brother initially thought he was asleep on the kitchen floor. When they moved him to the couch, they realized he was unresponsive. A woman later called the police after noticing he wasn’t breathing.
Rich Homie Quan rose to fame in the mid-2010s. He became a major name in hip-hop with hits like “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)” and “Type of Way.” These tracks cemented his place in the trap music scene. He collaborated with rappers Jeezy and Meek Mill, and was part of the Rich Gang collective alongside Young Thug and Birdman. His 2018 album, Rich as in Spirit, showcased his talents as a solo artist, featuring limited collaborations, including a track with Rick Ross titled “Think About It.”
Quan’s untimely death has left the music world mourning the loss of a once-rising star. His influence on hip-hop remains unforgettable.
